IPEC, Alba Iulia, was founded in 1990 by the Covaciu family, and today it is one of the largest producers of porcelain plates in Europe. The entrepreneur comes from a family that has worked for several decades in the field of porcelain.
Cristian Covaciu proposed to invest 10 million euros in a porcelain cup production unit, which will also be located in Alba Iulia, and the construction is to be started next year.
The factory would be the most modern in the world, fully automated, with technologies that will be used for the first time in the world, as Cristian Covaciu declares. 100 people will be needed in the new factory to supervise the production system.
IPEC has a production capacity of about 50 million plates per year, and the production of cups would complete the portfolio and lead to business growth. And in the current factory, cups are produced, but the share of this article is small.
Cristian Covaciu says that he has so far sold 650 million plates and only a few million cups.
Last year, the company had business of 157 million lei, being the highest revenues in the history of the business. The products manufactured in Alba Iulia are found in many restaurants in Romania and in Europe, but also in personal homes. IPEC works with restaurants and some of the biggest retailers in Europe, such as Ikea, Carrefour, Metro and Aldi. The entrepreneur says that this period, marked by rising prices, is one of the most difficult moments in business.
Over time, Cristian Covaciu received proposals to sell the company, but it will be taken over by the next generation, because one of his daughters will lead the family business.
